Hybrid vehicles in 2007

Friday, September 8th, 2006

The market for hybrid cars is a booming one, and more and more of the big car manufacturers are getting into the game. Bestsellers like the Toyota prius are about to get some competition pretty soon.

So is 2007 the year to jump on the bandwagon for hybrid driven vehicles? Especially when taken into account that using hybrid technology will be extra high-priced in comparison to purchasing a standard vehicle. Some of the top vehicle makers have already released a noteworthy line of hybrid vehicles for 2007 that will presumably make machine buyers dash off to showrooms almost like bored wives on their way to a mall sale.

Due to the way things look globally right now, such as the war(s) being fought in the middle east right now, terrorist attack against refineries etc., we can’t count on the oil price dropping to more humane levels anytime soon.

But maybe that could be a good thing after all, at least for the environment as the high oil prices makes more and more people consider alternatives such as hybrid cars that run partially on electricity instead of gasoline.

Among the new and exciting hybrid cars of 2006 we find the Honda Accord and the Toyota prius. Read more details about these two cars here.

Hybrid cars to the rescue

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

With gas prices continually rising more and more people are looking for alternatives to the traditional fuel or diesel powered car. One such alternative is so called hybrid cars.

Hybrid basically means that the car runs on more than one power source, most hybrid cars are running on the combination gas-electric. This means the cars are powered both by electricity and by gasoline. Gas electric or hybrid cars promise greater efficiency because gasoline consumption is lessened, not eliminated.

Despite what one might think, the history of hybrid cars is actually a rather long one. The concept dates back to at least the early 19000 when such a car was presented at the World Exhibition in Paris. You may very well have heard the name of a the young Czechoslovakian who designed this car - none other than Ferdinand Porsche! I was actually called the Lohner-Porsche carriage, a series-hybrid vehicle that utilized a one-cylinder gasoline internal combustion engine. This engine can spun a generator which powered four wheel-mounted electric motors.
